Therapy that comes from lived experience and leads with heart.
I’m Emily Duggan (she/her), a Registered Psychotherapist and the founder of Sunlight Psychotherapy. I bring warmth, creativity, and real-life understanding to the therapy space. My goal is to offer support that feels human, trauma-informed, and deeply affirming—for people from all walks of life.
At Sunlight Psychotherapy, we’re passionate about fostering a stronger community through our innovative programs and partnerships. By engaging in youth empowerment events and creating sustainable mental health resources, we aim to inspire growth and connection. From sponsoring local sports teams to launching accessible therapy programs, our mission is to make a meaningful impact. Join us in supporting initiatives that prioritize mental wellness and celebrate community strength, with youth empowerment events at the heart of it all.

My Journey to Becoming a Therapist
My interest in mental health began when I was a child navigating my own emotional challenges. I found therapy at a young age, and it became a safe space to heal, grow, and feel truly heard. That early experience stayed with me—and inspired me to build a life and career around helping others feel the same sense of safety and support. Becoming a therapist felt like coming full circle.

The Heart Behind the Practice
Sunlight Psychotherapy is named in honour of Ciara Sunlight, my dog and best friend from childhood. She was with me through every difficult chapter and brought warmth, calm, and unconditional love. Her legacy lives on in the care I bring to my work and the space I hold for clients. Today, I’m also learning from Lily—my wonderfully chaotic dog who teaches me daily about boundaries, joy, and self-trust.
My approach to therapy is grounded in authenticity, curiosity, and connection. I work collaboratively, drawing from evidence-based practices while also tuning into what you need in each session. I welcome neurodivergent clients, LGBTQIA2S+ folks, teens, parents, caregivers, and anyone who’s navigating emotional overwhelm, trauma, or transitions. You don’t need to have it all figured out to start—we can figure it out together.
